Physician Statement 2017

Our Next 100 Years

It’s an honor and privilege to be appointed the 2016-2017 president of the Michigan Otolaryngology Society. I am looking forward to my term as president and continuing the long history of excellence and service of the Michigan Otolaryngology Society into “Our Next 100 Years.”

I would like to congratulate the immediate past president, Adam Rubin, for his leadership and the other board members and officers for their commitment to education and advocacy for our specialty. I look forward to working with them this year.

I would like to introduce you to our current officers:
Lamont Jones, M.D. – President
Michael Haupert, D.O. – Secretary/Treasurer
Michael Carron, M.D. – Program Chair

The future of the Michigan Otolaryngology Society depends on the active participation of our members. This year, we will continue efforts already underway to increase membership and member participation. We understand the challenges of attending quarterly meetings due to personal and clinical demands. Therefore, we have been working hard to update the website and improve streaming abilities for the quarterly and summer meetings. We are also in the process of reorganizing the board to allow for more participation of newer members while maintaining senior member guidance. Please contact Karen Carter, if you would like to get more involved. Nevertheless, the Michigan Otolaryngology Society needs your help encouraging our colleagues throughout the state to join and to contribute. We are only as strong as our membership.

In light of the changing healthcare landscape, we will continue to advocate locally and nationally for our specialty and patients in partnership with the Michigan State Medical Society, American Medical Association and the American Academy of Otolaryngology. This year as in past years, we will respond to challenges that affect private, academic, solo and group practice as well as being proactive on issues such as alternative payment models, scope of practice, medical malpractice tort reform and changes to third party policies which affect our ability to provide quality care to patients. If you have specific concerns or know of pending issues that will impact our specialty, please let Karen know.

I am looking forward to a productive year as president of the Michigan Otolaryngology Society. Please contact me or Karen with your suggestions, concerns or comments.

Lamont Jones, M.D., MBA
